If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to design several designs based on a specific structure, custom templates are the answer.
Using the Add to Templates feature, you can generate your own template and apply it across all of your designs.
With the Custom Templates feature we've also added a new role that can be assigned to team members: Template Designer. Members with the Template Designer role have the same access as the Editors but they can also add, remove and edit the templates like an Admin or the Team Owner.
The role can be assigned from the Team Settings > Members menu, by clicking on the roles button
A. How Does it Work?
There are two ways to convert a design into a template.
1. From the designs folder
Once you enter the designs folder from your team project, simply hover over a design, and from the three dots on the upper right side, select Add to templates.
2. From Edit mode
You can also add a template while editing a design. Go to the top left menu panel between the Project and Resize buttons, click on the 3 lines, and then choose Add to templates.
If you add it from the Editor, it will prompt a question about whether you’d like to continue editing the design or if you’d like to edit it as a template.
At this point, you have two options:
- If you select Edit Design, the Editor will remain the same, and there won’t be any further changes to the saved template.
- If you select Edit template, the Editor will switch to the Template editor, where changes will apply only to the template, not to the design.
The distinction between design and template editing can be made using the Template label, which is present both in the template menu, and when editing a template.
Once you finish the previous step, you can easily start a design using that template from the Templates section.
B. Edit a Saved Template
After you save a template, you can also edit it.
Go to your team designs folder and search for the template you want to adjust. Click on the three dots from the upper right corner and choose Edit template.
C. Preview Your Work
While in the Templates section you may also Preview the saved templates. You can do this by clicking on the Preview button that appears when you hover over them.
Once you click on Preview, the Template label appears on the preview page. In this way, you can distinguish between the templates and ready-made designs. In this step, you’ll also have the option to edit the template, or you can start a new design from the template.
Note: The designs created from templates will have the same sizes as the templates, but you can use the Resize function to change the initial sizes of the design.
You can apply the same process to design sets. Create, edit and even preview set templates the same way as individual templates.
